Shame on eBay!

Did a Google search on hurricane relief to make a contribution. While some of the links were appropriate, it's amazing how quickly the crass crew jumps into action - t-shirts are already on sale.

One of the more offensive items is an Adwords listing by none other than eBay. This is yet another example of internet marketing and specifically keyword marketing done wrong. Wonder how many other "keywords" eBay bought that wind up sounding like this terrible Adword haiku.

Hiring Frenzy

We are very busy with work. It's a good busy as we have lots of client projects running right now.

That's why we're on the hunt for some good flash animators and graphic designers. If you are a human being who fits these descriptions, please let us know about you. If you are a non-humanoid lifeform who is interested in joining the Animax team, then please feel free to beam us up to your spaceship so we can have a discussion about your qualifications. If you don't have a spaceship, we're very sorry, but we have no use for you.

Hamon Wry

The interactive division of Animax produced a suite of online banner ad units and pointrolls for ad agency Hamon & Associates (now do you get the Hamon Wry blog post title? We crack ourselves up sometimes.) and their client Singapore Airlines. The ads feature an illustrated rendition of the famed Singapore Girl complete with some animation.

Subliminal Advertising

Animax gets some free word of mouth advertising in the movie The Aristocrats put out by Penn and Teller. Dave Thomas, our ECD, is one of the comedians asked to tell the over the top, obscenity-laden joke called the Aristocrats. When you're watching the movie, as Dave improvises his version of the joke, let your eyes wander to the wall behind Dave and you'll see character designs and artwork from the animated short we produced for Warner Bros. called, "The Animated Adventures of Bob and Doug McKenzie." Product placement that we didn't even have to pay for!

Animax in LA or Animax-LA?

Seems like there might be some confusion amongst the fans out there as to who we are. We, Animax, are the company based in Los Angeles, or LA - actually we moved to Culver City recently, but technically we are in LA County. Animax-LA looks like it's the site for the new Latin America version of Sony's Animax TV Channel which doesn't have carriage in the USA yet. Anyways, if you happen upon our site, or our blog, feel free to poke around. We're also known as Animax Entertainment or Animax Interactive, so we can understand how things can get confusing.

Opening Up Radical Randy

Animax has started producing an animated series of videos to help kids with asthma better understand the chronic condition. The videos will feature Radical Randy, whose chest cavity just so happens to open up to show his insides. Very fun. The Pediatrics Asthma Team at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) are the folks we're working with to translate their teaching programs and the work they do at Camp RAD into a fun and informative series.

Ouch, I Got a Director's Cut

Golic and Greenberg recorded video bumpers to go in front of our flash animation series, "Off-Mikes" during this down time before the new season starts up again at the end of September.

Mickey, Pooh, Disney, and Animax

Take a look at the Disney Character Gallery now, and then check again in mid-November. In particular, keep an eye open for what's gong to happen to Mickey and Pooh. The new sites will be great for kids, parents and Disney fans alike. And great for Animax ;-) .

Obie Wade, You're Our Only Hope

We're starting animation on a pilot for independent producer Obie Scott Wade, head of Obieco. Should be fun since it's reminiscent of a certain group of Super Friends.

Bully Be Gone!

McGruff the crime dog is Animax's newest pal. We've started animating an interactive story to help kids understand how to deal with bullies. Bullying and teasing are cited as the top school troubles of students ages 8-15. Since most incidents are witnessed by other kids, it is essential that kids who witness incidents understand that they can have a big impact by intervening in a bullying situation.

We're working with the Ad Council and the National Crime Prevention Council on the animation.

Slammo Dunk for AOL

The team at Animax, actually mainly our Head of Animation, Al Rosson, animated a pilot for AOL's Entertainment division called Slammo & Sloshie's Super Sexy Interstellar TV Jamboree. Very fun - hope to have a link to show it to you soon.

Oh, SHOOT!

Emily Viles at SHOOT Magazine wrote a nice article about Animax's work on ESPN's "Off-Mikes."
